Baby-Name Suggestions

We’ve received something on the order of forty-five emails from friends and family congratulating us on our upcoming arrival. To our great relief, none of them as yet has contained the words, “Good Lord, no!” or “Are the two of you really sure you should be having a child?”

Instead, all are full of joyful good wishes – and not a little surprise (we had kept Plan Baby a closely guarded secret). The emails from our loved ones also contain a fair number of baby-name suggestions, almost none of which are actual contenders in our naming deliberations but many of which tickle us endlessly. Here are a few of them. Keep in mind that the baby’s gender is as yet undisclosed.

Howard Phillips
Taylor
Elizabeth
Chow Yun
Serenissima Rolls Royce
Nyarlathotep
Collosus
Marmeduke
Concertina
Aereola

We’ve also received a special request not to name the baby Hazel. Sure, we can do that.

The wee one is the size of an orange this week. Apparently, its hands and feet are about a half inch long, and the muscles in its face are developed enough that little Orangina can make facial expressions. We wish we lived in the future, when expectant parents will be able to buy little stick-on windows for pregnant bellies. We’d watch baby TV all evening long.

    Well, don’t forget *MY* suggestion,,,Metaphor.

Right! Another one for the list!

Considering that I’m the one that came up with John’s name — in honor of both of the grandmothers’ maiden names — I’d think that just maybe I might deserve at least a thoughtful consideration should I happen to come up with a few more names.

Of course, in naming my own son, I didn’t do so well. There was a little league baseball team with the entire infield all with the same name. Yelling for “Matt” pretty much covered everyone on any given play.

Stick on windows for pregnant bellies?? Sounds like Teletubbies to me!

At least YOU didn’t name a child Jennifer Lyn in 1967! Seemed like a good idea at the time.

Speaking of names,,,the grandparent names are a whole ‘nother issue!

As I am known to all the cousins on both sides of our family as Aunt K, I expect to ease into Granny K.

Orangina, you say? What a lovely FEMININE name you’ve chosen to refer to your baby as in this blog. Eh????

    >eyebrow raises. the left one.

It’s about time we got some familial torment going with this gender thing. We were getting worried that it wouldn’t pay off at all!

Well, I just knit a FABULOUS pink baby blanket. Do you want it?

  10. Guy Tynes Says:

If that pink baby blanket won’t do, I found this online at Jo-Ann Stores:
